Boston Children's Hospital, Master Plan
Boston, MA | 2014
The Boston Children's Hospital master plan addresses long-term strategies for healthcare service delivery on the hospital's highly constrained core campus in Boston's Longwood Medical Area.
The plan focuses on responding to the hospital's continuing growth in patient volume and its delivery of high-level tertiary and quaternary care, specifically addressing the need for single patient rooms and rebranding BCH's Centers of Excellence. The plan incorporates strategies for improving the patient and family experience, including the provision of safer and more direct access to the hospital. Recommendations include the development of a new, physically integrated 445,000 SF clinical building and central utility plant; a major parking garage expansion; and a 240,000 square foot off-site administrative office building.
These physical improvements are proposed in conjunction with the hospital's ongoing efforts to pursue redesigns of its systems of operations and infrastructure consistent with the objective of improving quality care while reducing costs and advancing its mission of driving innovation in pediatric care delivery.
