Emma Willard School, Community Life Spaces
Troy, NY | 2007
The revitalization of Sage, Hyphen, and Kellas Halls forms a new center for student life and learning at The Emma Willard School while honoring its rich architectural legacy. The new kitchen and dining area create a “welcoming hearth” for the students' home away from home while reinforcing positive messages of health and wellness. Improved student amenities include a cyber cafe, social and study lounges, student organization spaces, and exhibition spaces, with accessible entrances and security points. On the ground floor, a post office, bookstore, health center, laundry, and bank establish a village center. The new spaces unite the school's day and boarding communities by engaging dormitory life and the day students for whom the facility is a daytime home.
