Gardner Family Health Network, Gardner Packard Children's Health Center

Atherton, CA | 2013

Relocated from the Stanford campus, this pediatric primary care center provides a new home for accessible, quality clinical services in a comfortable and welcoming setting. Gardner Family Health Network partnered with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital to establish this facility. Gardner patients are served by eight physicians and 40 residents from Packard, operating under a combined brand, as the Gardner Packard Children's Health Center.

The design establishes two clinical components that straddle a central reception waiting area. The existing building offered ground-floor access from covered parking at the rear, but required major renovation to organize 18 exam rooms and to create a welcoming street entrance for those arriving by public transportation. The shapes and colors of the new brand's logo are reflected throughout the interior, reinforcing a new beginning for an established relationship while setting a high standard for future healthcare partnerships.

The facility meets OSHPD 3 requirements by utilizing a variable volume mechanical system. While the system has higher up-front costs, it anticipates a payback period of under three years through energy savings and local rebates.
