Hartford Hospital, Project for Modernization
Hartford, CT | 2010
Hartford Hospital's phased Project for Modernization reinforces a sense of quality care and institutional brand in a highly competitive market while organizing existing services to address several pressing clinical needs. The development of 30,000 s.f. of new clinical space includes a 26-bed medical-surgical unit, nine-bed step-down unit expansion, and eight new ICU beds. Inpatient and outpatient lobbies are being upgraded with similar canopies, vestibules, and interior treatment to create a shared institutional identity across a collection of widely disparate buildings. Five new front-end provider rooms in the 5,000 s.f. Emergency Department renovation will significantly improve throughput, while improvements to the department's public spaces include an upgraded waiting room and reorganized security, communications, triage, and patient billing functions. The Project for Modernization follows Shepley Bulfinch's two-year master planning project for the hospital.
