Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, Medical Center
Tempe, AZ | 2010
The new medical center for the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine transforms part of a 25-year old corporate office complex into a place of healing and education infused with nature. This project, the first phase of a 40,000 s.f. renovation, integrates six classroom teaching environments, retail pharmacy (or medicinary), and community outreach clinic, with 25 private practice offices/exam rooms and a hydrotherapy clinic. The facility’s design, which reflects the naturopathic principles of disease prevention and healing without harm, incorporates hybrid teaching and research spaces. Nature is central to the patient experience: corridors, waiting lounges, and classrooms offer views of exterior courtyards rich with drought-tolerant plantings. Acoustics reinforce a sense of quiet and calm.
The design-build project was completed in association with Kitchell Construction.
