Reimagining Redpath

McGill University,
McLennan Redpath Library Archives and Master Plan

Montreal, PQ, Canada
The Library Archives and Master Plan for McGill University balances existing architectural beauty with new structures, and addresses the evolving needs of the twenty-first century student.
In collaboration with the McGill community, Shepley Bulfinch conducted a master planning exercise to explore space needs and collection-storage strategies across the school’s library system. A major initiative of the plan called for redevelopment of McLennan Redpath Library. The redesign features a voluminous glass-walled gathering space that connects the campus to the City of Montreal.
The lower level of Redpath Library opens onto the campus green and features a technology-rich environment for individual and collaborative study.
The skytop reading room provides students a place for inspiration, while taking in views of Mount Royal.
Adjacent to Redpath's main gathering space, the Special Collections Exhibition Hall enhances visibility of one of the rarest archival collections in North America. Shepley Bulfinch is the design architect, in association with EKM Architects of Montreal.
