Our Shared Purpose

We are committed to exploring and addressing the fundamental challenges of well-being, social equity, and environmental stewardship in all that we do. We work with care and intention at the intersections of these issues to support our commitment to our core beliefs.

We believe:

Design is about people.
All people deserve memorable and inspiring places that connect us to nature, history, and culture.
Everyone benefits when we learn and discover together.
Great design emerges from a culture of belonging that champions diverse voices and embraces deep and difficult questions.
Design should catalyze change and advance social equity, fairness, and opportunity, even in an imperfect world.
Design has the power to nourish, regenerate, and heal.
Our work must leave the planet better for future generations.

Design situates us in the world and orients us toward our collective future. We are grateful to engage in this purposeful and ongoing work with our clients and communities, wherever they are.

It's not about us, it's about you.

Leaders in Design Innovation

Since 1874, our integrated design teams have been internationally recognized experts.

Libraries

Since designing our first library in 1876, our firm has contributed to the continuing evolution of library design.

Pediatrics

Pediatric care facilities foster health and well-being with friendly imagery and biophilic design while accommodating evolving cutting-edge and innovative technologies for children – and their families.

Education

We design academic spaces that foster diversity and connectivity as a literal and figurative investment in the future.

Healthcare

Our designs are healing, comforting, and support the most technologically advanced procedures.

Science and Technology

Our lab designs emphasize adaptability with functional, flexible, and sustainable spaces for collaboration and innovation while promoting the safety and well-being of users.

We have recently completed projects in 41 states.

In 1877, the consecration of Trinity Church in Boston introduced our firm to the world and ignited a movement in design — the archetype of the Richardsonian Romanesque style — that was soon adopted by a number of public buildings across the country. We continue to be challengers of convention on a quest to seize what hasn’t happened yet, tackling complex projects with pioneering vision and boundless creativity.
