Vice President of Marketing & Business Development 

At Shepley Bulfinch the Vice President of Marketing & Business Development leads business development and marketing strategy ranging from client strategy, comprehensive proposals, and the development of compelling stories that promote the overall design expertise of the firm.  They will work with practice groups and Principals in focusing on strategic client relationship, evaluation of new opportunities, and promoting brand awareness on a national scale. They will also streamline the practices and processes utilized within Shepley Bulfinch to optimize our marketing team and resources. This individual is responsible for leading the Marketing and Business Development teams and reports to the EVP of Market Strategy.  This position is hybrid with a preference for the candidate to be located near one of our studios (Boston, Durham, Hartford, Houston and Phoenix. 

   

  • Conceptualize and execute a comprehensive client engagement plan that builds valuable relationships in multiple markets and regions (with a particular focus in Healthcare, Higher Education, Urban Development and Science & Technology) 

  • Develops annual marketing and business development strategy, goals and targets based on strategic planning with leadership  

  • Works effectively with Principals (revenue generators) and teams to improve messaging, maximize win rate, and effectively market the strengths of our people. 

  • Leads brand strategy refinement 

  • Supports the new revenue forecasting process with knowledge of pipeline  

  • Collaborates with Marketing Manager on internal and external communication strategy and management  

  • Leads, organizes, plans, schedules and manages the firm’s business development effort and resources such as: 

  • Oversees the proposal management schedule (RFQs and RFPs), go/no-go process, establishes pursuit priorities, documents and tracks team task assignments, and keeps team accountable to internal and external deadlines 

  • Ensures business development and marketing efforts are aligned and resources are effectively utilized to meet deadlines and achieve goals 

  • Sets and manages annual department budget in collaboration with the EVP of Market Strategy and CFO. Approves and allocates funds for target clients’ conferences, sponsorships, etc. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree required 

  • 10+ years business development experience 

  • Appreciation for architecture required 

  • Proficiency in InDesign and PowerPoint; MS Word and Excel (Illustrator and Photoshop a plus) 

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively across all levels of the firm and with industry contacts 

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing teams 

  • Flexibility to travel is required.
