Learning & Development Manager 

Reports To: VP of HR 



Shepley Bulfinch’s Learning and Development function is a key enabler of the Shepley experience; implementing best-in-class teaching practices, this function supports and enables higher quality, and more relevant learning that is aligned with high performing teams.  The Learning and Development Manager focuses on the creation of learning solutions in totality, from concept and design through execution and assessment. 


Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities 

  • Create a learning and development strategy for Shepley Bulfinch, aligned to our company strategy 

  • Conduct training needs analysis to support development of instructional designs  

  • Partner with business leaders across the organization to identify development and training needs that will prepare employees for more responsible positions and increase effectiveness in present assignments 

  • Facilitate formal and informal workshops and learning experiences for large and small group presentation, using handouts, workbooks, guides, and other materials as needed 

  • Assist with development and facilitate planned programs for organizational change and improvement using action research, organizational development, and quality improvement concepts and methods 

  • Define learning goals for each training initiative 

  • Develop and deliver training reinforcement sessions to participants at all levels 

  • Plan and manage logistics for learning programs 

  • Partner with Admin team to provide guidance around CEU program  

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our learning and development offerings and course correct as needed 

  • Perform other duties, projects and assignments as needed to support company learning and development objectives.  

  • Collaborate with internal experts to develop and hone learning content  

  • Evaluate external learning offerings (experts, resources, etc) 



  • Experience within the AEC/design industry is preferred 

  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred 

  • 5 -10 years of experience in adult learning or Learning and Development experience 

  • The ability to effectively evaluate and measure programs and systems effectiveness 

  • An open mindset and the ability to adapt and develop better approaches to help retain qualified and valuable talent 

  • Strong analytic skills and the ability to think strategically and programmatically 

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to deliver results promptly 

  • The ability to think outside the box and bring creative and relevant solutions to the organization 

  • Ability to travel up to 20%
