Higher Education

Campus communities across the country are experiencing an era of rapid and radical transformation. We work closely with students, faculty and staff to design environments that foster diversity, engagement, and evolve with the needs of future educators and learners.

During the Boston Children’s Master Planning process, Shepley conducted a ‘shadowing exercise’ for the Heart Center whereby the team observed and documented day-to-day activities of the clinicians. Full-scale cardboard mock-ups and simulations with the goal of improving patient safety and comfort influenced the planning process.

Healthcare

To design tomorrow’s hospitals, we look beyond the walls to understand how space and systems impact patient and staff journeys, as well as day-to-day operations. We employ a design approach that puts the patient at the center—one that inspires better outcomes and increases productivity and profitability for hospitals and healthcare providers.

Mikyoung Kim Design acted as the landscape architect.

Urban Development

Great urban environments result from great dialogue with neighborhood organizations engagement, artist collaborations, and strong city planning relationships. Our clients come to us for the most complex projects that require elegant solutions that meet their programmatic and financial goals.

In Eugene, Oregon, we transformed a LEED Gold multi-family housing project’s street corner into a neighborhood rain garden.

Science & Technology

Design that fosters engagement and collaboration is fundamental to delivering change in academic science and interdisciplinary research facilities. We design transformative science development properties that bring people together, serve a community of learners and promote cross-pollination among various programs.
