The kickoff to our 2019 summer internship and design fellowship program began early this year, with our campus recruiting process. We attended a wide range of campus events—at universities including Boston Architectural College, Rhode Island School of Design, Syracuse University, Rice University, University of Houston, Arizona State University, and University of Arizona—creating an active campaign across a wide range of career boards, and sharing our summer design fellowship poster with every accredited architecture program in the country, we identified a talented and diverse group of design students.
In early June, we were excited to welcome 10 new Bulfinches to our firm. Through our 10-week program, the design fellow and interns became integrated into project teams and experienced firsthand what life is like at Shepley Bulfinch.
In addition to engaging in project work, the group participated in the Ropes Course—a series of six discussions on various topics in architectural practice—to help them “learn the ropes” and guide them in their efforts.
As summer comes to an end, it will be bittersweet to see the enthusiastic team head back to school. We’ve appreciated the new perspectives and ideas the students have shared, and look forward to working with these talented designers again in the future.
