Meet the Summer 2022 Interns
Every year, Shepley Bulfinch welcomes a team of interns to dive into project work across the firm. As their internships come to a close, we asked them what they’ve been working on all summer, why they chose Shepley, and a series of rapid fire questions.

Christopher Beck | Design Intern
I’m working on a few different projects at the Yale New Haven Hospital St. Raphael’s Campus in New Haven, CT, including the neuroscience tower and the parking garage. I’m helping with putting together documents and bulletins for construction, visiting the site to meet with clients and to do field measurements, and preparing physical materials for presentations.
Why did you choose Shepley Bulfinch?
I chose Shepley after discovering a passion for healthcare design at a previous internship. I wanted to work at the type of firm that is always seeking new and innovative ways to help people through design, and that strives to balance time-tested approaches and tactics with constant experimentation.
Rapid fire Q+A
- Favorite style of architecture? Scandinavian
- Favorite ice cream flavor? Strawberry
- What’s one thing no one would guess about you? I love reality TV!
Andres De La Rocha | Design Intern
Currently, I am working on the Banner University Medical Center Tucson Play Zone project. I am helping in multiple aspects of the project like constructions documents, concept design, and many other things!
Why did you choose Shepley Bulfinch?
I chose Shepley Bulfinch for my internship program because of the biophilic design aspect the firm implements in projects. I took great interest in biophilia in architecture during school, so that made it an even easier decision to make.
Rapid fire Q+A
- Favorite building/structure? Postmodern
- Favorite ice cream? Birthday cake with gummy bears
- What’s one thing no one would guess about you? I have an almost complete collection of the US state quarters, including DC and some US territories. I am only missing Guam, American Samoa, and the US Virgin Islands. All coins were collected by finding them in change.
Juliana Hernandez | Graphic Design Intern
I am currently working on animating an Instagram reel for Marketing to showcase Student Life projects. I am also editing headshots for new hires to adjust lighting, background, and format for a more consistent look. I’ve been helping create digital mockups for donor signage studies for UH Law using Affinity Photo. I have also been working to create an annual firm calendar and year-at-a-glance to help visualize major firm meetings.
Why did you choose Shepley Bulfinch?
I was really interested in Shepley because of the unique opportunity to do graphic design in a non-graphic-design company. I’ve been able to gain a lot of experience in a new genre of design that I think has helped me expand my skillset as a designer. I’ve also learned more about architecture and working in a remote environment with a diverse team.
Rapid fire Q+A
- Favorite style of architecture? Contemporary
- Favorite ice cream? Strawberry ice cream
- Pets? A shiba-inu pup named Haru
Eric Liu | Data Intern
What projects are you currently working on and what is your involvement in them?
I’m primarily working on an internal data project with the marketing team. The project involves gathering/analyzing data from past projects and shaping the data around project planning.
Why did you choose Shepley Bulfinch for your internship program?
I chose to intern at Shepley Bulfinch because of an interest in institutional architecture and the opportunity to be on a team that incorporates my past experiences in data and technology.

Olivia McCafferty | Design Intern
I am currently working on the Greenwich Hospital Smilow Cancer Center in Connecticut with my team, preparing presentations and working through revisions for the user group meetings to prepare the project to be issued for design development next month.
Why did you choose Shepley Bulfinch?
I was very enthusiastic to join Shepley Bulfinch for my summer internship program as I share many values with that of the company and I really aim to gain first-hand experience on the design of a project and how it applies to the users who will be working inside the building.
