A breath of new life for a historic district

Postino East
Upward Projects
Gilbert, AZ

Postino East breathes new life into a tired commercial building in the heart of Gilbert’s historic Heritage District, establishing a destination dining spot in a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood filled with landmarks.

The intimate layout draws patrons to the lounge and soft seating areas while outside, generous canopied windows and a new patio connect Postino with the fabric of the surrounding district. The design juxtaposes the building’s original structural steel beams, exposed CMU walls and concrete floors with wood trusses, warm colors, and carefully selected vintage furniture, decor, and tile. Exposed mechanical ducts and track lighting complement the building’s underlying industrial feel, while rich red and yellow walls set off the signature wine wall and strategically placed mirrors, furnishings, and vintage fixtures convey a sense of warmth.

The space flows from indoors to outdoors, with an interior-exterior bar and a series of large garage-style doors that bring in light and cool breezes and lead diners to the wrap-around patio, with its view of Gilbert’s iconic water tower.
