Shifts in Dining Philosophy and Operation to Build Community
Shepley Bulfinch and Envision Strategies have been collaborating on the redesign of Lehigh University’s Clayton University Center (CUC) for nearly a decade. Emerging from the pandemic and with new University leadership, the project scope evolved into a major renovation aimed at transforming the CUC both aesthetically and functionally. The primary goal was to create a transformational dining and student life experience, making the space vibrant and welcoming for community gatherings and discussions. Join Director Amanda Vigneau, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED ID+C, and Director Katie Chambers, AIA, EDAC, LEED AP, at the 2025 NACAS East CX conference for a presentation on how the resulting approach not only enhances the dining experience but also encourages students to explore different areas of the CUC.
Together, they will share lessons incorporated from the pandemic, including GrubHub’s mobile ordering system to reduce lines and congestion, while providing ample space for students to dine within the building. The forward-thinking strategy serves Lehigh’s diverse student body inclusively, creating a more free-flowing student life experience where any student can dine or meet, regardless of their engagement with dining and student life; a testament to the university’s commitment to providing a dynamic and inclusive environment for all students, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
