Facades+ DC: Mass Timber Shapes a New Social Landscape at JHU

Join Principal Matthew Gifford, AIA, LEED AP, at Facades+ 26 in Washington, DC. He will be joined by Jason Wu, associate, BIG, and Shamil Lallani, senior associate, knippershelbig, to explore the convergence of technical innovation and mass timber design at the new Bloomberg Student Center at Johns Hopkins University.

The completion of the Bloomberg Student Center at Johns Hopkins University was a significant milestone on the path toward the future of sustainable buildings. A layered grouping of rectangular volumes composes the facade, which supports a system of nearly 1,000 photovoltaic panels. Presenters will revisit the challenges construction of the facade presented, and the use and future of mass timber for multi-functional higher education spaces.
