An interdisciplinary research hub
Perkins Library Complex
Duke University
Durham, NC
The Perkins Library complex hosts a variety of work spaces and resources to provide faculty and students with space for cross-program collaboration.
The intellectual crossroads of one of the country’s leading research universities, Duke University’s libraries provide comprehensive, integrated academic resources and services. The libraries have been transformed through a series of programming, planning, design, and construction projects that have spanned more than a decade, fulfilling a vision for the institution set forth in our library master plan. This holistic learning environment of the Perkins-Bostock complex responds to a wide-ranging demand for services, with robust research facilities and environments for solitary and shared scholarship. Included are the special collections of the Rubenstein Library, which are complemented by exhibit and event space, and the social gathering spaces of the jewel box-like von der Heyden Pavilion.

Hosted by the library, The Link is a lab for teaching and learning that expands the boundaries of the physical classroom in a flexible, collaborative setting rich with new technologies. The most recently completed project is The/Edge, a new research commons. The/Edge brings together digital and physical resources with staff expertise and spaces that support interdisciplinary faculty and student research. Of critical importance is access to technology-rich tools. The/Edge, which offers a variety of lendable technology for group use, is also home for the Library’s Data Visualization Lab, providing access to unique software and training that supports data-driven research.
