Elevating the Experience
Park Avenue Medical Center
Yale New Haven Health/Bridgeport Hospital
Trumbull, CT
The Park Avenue Medical Center does more than integrate a vast range of services—including Ambulatory Surgery, Cancer Treatment, Radiology, and Breast Care—into one three-story facility. The Center raises the bar for a new level of outpatient care in southwestern Connecticut.
The Garden features a rich palette of plantings, as well as a cascading waterfall and reflecting pool. The boomerang shape and glass-walled corridors of the Center invite light and nature into the building, and provide patients and staff with views of the greenspace.
Located at the heart of the Center, the Norma Pfriem Healing Garden invites visitors to reflect and heal in a tranquil, holistic space. The Cancer Center’s private infusion suites provide direct access to the Garden, giving patients the option of receiving treatment outdoors in private, shaded terraces.
“The Bridgeport Hospital service area has its first comprehensive, multispecialty outpatient campus. Impressively, it was completed on time and on budget.”
Newman Marsilius III, chair of the Bridgeport Hospital Board of Directors
Shepley Bulfinch has designed additional projects for Yale New Haven Health, including a 14-story facility for Smilow Cancer Hospital. The facility helped reinforce the hospital’s reputation as a top-ranking Comprehensive Cancer Center, as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
A large canopy welcomes patients and visitors to the Center and protects them from the elements.
