At Joyride Taco House, splashes of color reach from floor to ceiling, most noticeably from the custom-made concrete tiles imported from Mexico and the salvaged steering wheels and headlights, all working together to create a vintage inspired vibe. Signature garage doors adorn both the front and back of the building, creating a breezeway and two distinct patios that keep the laid-back experience intact.

This renovation breathes new life into a tired commercial building in the heart of Gilbert’s historic Heritage District, establishing a destination dining spot in a pedestrian oriented neighborhood filled with landmarks. The space flows from indoors to outdoors, with an interior-exterior bar and a series of large garage-style doors that bring in light and cool breezes.

A 15 ft wide ribbon of land around a parking garage–an underutilized space transforms into a habitable structure. Mobile campers are reimagined as dwelling units, retail and gallery space, stitching together the pedestrian experience with activity in the artists district.

This adaptive reuse project transforms a 1950s bank into a pizzeria restaurant and bar. The design preserves the existing character of the building, exposing the existing structural elements as part of the aesthetic. The concrete floors, structural wide flange beams, and coarse aggregate columns all integrate into the new features, hinting back to the mid-century era when the original building was constructed.

The restoration and adaptive reuse of the Phoenix Financial Center celebrates an architectural landmark, while advancing the city’s vision for revival of the Midtown Central Avenue corridor. Re-imagined spaces personify the contemporary workplace, and pay homage to W.A. Sarmiento’s original design intent. The revitalized mid-century modern icon connects Phoenix’s history with its potential.
